Senior Planner

New York and Florida. Full time.

The role

You will own the schedule on construction programs over $100 million: building the baseline, keeping it honest through the life of the job, and saying clearly what the updates mean. On our work that usually means Oracle Primavera P6 models in the range of 5,000 to 10,000 activities and beyond, spanning design, procurement, construction, commissioning and closeout.

This is a senior seat. You will carry more than one program at a time, and you will be the person a project manager, a superintendent or an owner turns to when the date is in question. The analysis has to be right, and it has to be explainable to somebody who does not build schedules for a living.

What you will do

  • Develop and maintain baseline and progress schedules across an assigned portfolio
  • Work with project managers and superintendents to build the baseline, including resource planning and cash flow
  • Collect progress, update the model, analyze the result, and report it
  • Write schedule narratives that say what changed, why, and what it costs in time
  • Prepare time impact analyses in support of contract changes
  • Hold quality across assigned schedules, so what leaves the office survives review
  • Train project teams in CPM technique and in the scheduling specification the contract actually imposes
  • Record what was learned when a job closes, so the next baseline starts better informed

What you need

  • A degree in engineering, construction management or a related discipline
  • At least six years scheduling large scale construction, on the order of $75 million and above
  • Expert command of the Critical Path Method, including the ability to read a change and determine its true impact on the date
  • Primavera P6 in depth, including cost and resource loading, and moving data cleanly between P6, Excel and Microsoft Project
  • The judgement to prioritize several live programs at once without letting any of them drift
  • Writing and speech clear enough for an executive summary and precise enough for a claim
  • AACE International PSP certification, or the willingness to earn it

Experience on high rise buildings, federal work under a scheduling specification, or forensic delay analysis is welcome and will be put to use, but is not a prerequisite.
